A DIALOGUE BETWEEN ANCIENT AND MODERN

A FINE ART GALLERY RENOVATION

Madison Ave. Manhattan

Connecting past and future while re-design this Art Gallery in Upper East Side.

This is a full renovation of an interior from the late 1800s responding to the need for formal rigor and flexibility.

Flexibility is what we are achieving with the pieces made to order to fit the space,  a flat-file cabinet holds which serves as a counter and bar during events or shows, a flexible 3 piece storage bench and modular cushions that can be moved around the room to create islands and a focal point depending on the show.

The wall unit, on the back of the room, unveils the contrast between the modernity, with its structure in raw metal perforated steel, and the history that is hidden in there, made of golden ancient frames. It is the reflection of a new concept of beauty and art that reveals itself only to expert eyes.

It took a little courage to open up the existing dropped ceiling and discover the original geometry of the beans, now fully restored.
